Indian Cooking Recipe : How to Make Potato Masiyal

Ingredients for the Recipe

  • 1 cups toovar dal
  • 2 potatoes
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1" piece ginger (minced)
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • a little asafoetida
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • a little haldi powder
  • 2 red chillies
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • A few coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp salt

Recipe (How to Make):

  1. Soak toovar dal in water for 15 minutes.
  2. Cut the potatoes into large pieces.
  3. Pressure cook dal with potato bits by adding sufficient water and ½ tsp salt for 8 minutes.
  4. Prepare seasoning in frying pan with mustard, chana dal and red chillies in oil.
  5. Add minced ginger and largely cut green chillies. Fry for a while.
  6. Then add haldi, asafoetida, tomato pieces and curry leaves.
  7. Fry for another few minutes.
  8. Put the cooked dal - potato mixture in the pan, add a little salt and cook for 3-5 minutes.
  9. Remove from flame.
  10. Stir in lemon juice and finely cut coriander leaves, before serving.
